Our client Charlie had asked us to investigate some red dust that was appearing on skirting boards and on books on his bookshelf. A quick subfloor inspection revealed what we had first feared during our call on initial enquiry: dry rot.
Fortunately for Charlie, he was in the right hands. We quickly traced the source to a water escape within the bathroom. However, due to joist bays being packed with insulation and the previous insulation installer having lazily left rolls lying around the solum, the outbreak had managed to spread from front to rear elevation, even extending up the back of his bookcase.
Dry rot (Serpula Lacrymans) is a growing fungus which can spread, given the correct moisture content and environment, through timber and even over masonry. This is why it needs to be dealt with quickly and properly by specialists who know what they are looking for and how to treat it effectively.
During our works, we also identified an active woodworm (Anobium Punctatum) infestation. A supplementary report was provided accordingly, which Charlie agreed to proceed with alongside the dry rot treatment.
Advanced Preservation where a very professional company to deal with on site and also the office staff. Would highly recommend them to anybody who may have a dry / wet rot problem. Work was completed to a high standard.
